Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. Gum disease can lead to tooth loss and other terrible outcomes without you knowing it. There are three stages of gum disease – from least to most severe – are gingivitis, periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis. Here are the common signs of gum disease.
Bleeding Gums.
Gums bleed are caused from plague that’s build up around the teeth which causes the gum tissues to inflame and bleed when brushing your teeth. If you notice red swelling around your gums for an extended period, it is best to check with your local dentist for a deep clean. Left alone will result in your gum tissue breakdown and the separation of the gums from the teeth which causes tooth loss.
Bad Breath.
Bad breath, medically called halitosis, can result in bad oral hygiene and possibly other health problems. Bad breath can be caused by the food that you eat and other unhealthy lifestyle habits.
Sensitive Gums.
Gums sensitivity is a form of irritation to hot or colds. This is usually caused due to exposed roots which are receded because of inflammation.
Loose Teeth.
If your teeth are feeling loose or shifted, you may be well in the latter stages of gum disease. This usually occurs due gums receding so much that bone loss can no longer support the tooth. If this has happened, it is best to book your local dentist right away where they will be able to suggest a dental appliance such as dentures or a dental implant.
Pain.
If you are experiencing any extreme pain that is giving you problems, there could be bacteria in your mouth. Do not risk ignoring the problem.
