Tooth Brush:

Using a toothbrush to clean your tongue is one of the most common and convenient options. Some toothbrushes even come with tongue cleaners are the opposite side of the bristles. When cleaning your tongue with a toothbrush, you first put a small amount of toothpaste on and then start brushing from the back of your mouth to the front. Then wash your mouth out with water! 

Tongue Scrapers: 

A tongue scraper is another popular method of cleaning a tongue. All you have to do is place the scraper on the back of your tongue and continuously pull it towards to front of the tongue. For best results, move the scraper tool across your tongue from multiple angles to ensure you reach all of the hidden bacteria. Remember to rinse your mouth out after with water or mouthwash! A scraper is an easy and quick way to clean your tongue! 

After cleaning your tongue with either a scraper or toothbrush, check your tongue in a mirror. If it is pink and fresh looking, that means you cleaned it properly. However, if you notice a white or yellowish discoloration, clean it a few more times!

Benefits of Regularly Cleaning Your Tongue

The tongue is a breeding ground for different bacteria and plaque. Throughout the day, food debris and other bacteria will start building up on the tongue as well as on your teeth. Many people brush their teeth two times a day to clean off this debris from their teeth but forget or overlook cleaning the tongue. The bacteria and plaque trapped in the tongue can transfer back to your teeth, defeating the whole purpose of brushing your teeth. One of those bacterias is sulfur compounds that can cause bad breath. Thankfully, there is a very easy fix to this, and that is just by regularly cleaning your tongue!

How Often Should You Clean Your Tongue?

To ensure that you keep bacteria and plaque away, it is best to clean your tongue twice a day. A good rule of thumb is to brush or scrape your tongue right after you brush your teeth. Doing it before bed will help reduce the amount of bacteria able to grow, which reduces the chance of morning breath in the morning.
