Periodontal Therapy
As plaque builds up in your mouth and on your teeth, your risk for periodontal, or gum, disease increases. If this plaque hardens, it can develop into tartar that only a professional cleaning can remove. The longer you leave these harmful buildups on your teeth, the greater the threat to your oral health. If your condition worsens to gingivitis, your gums will become red, swollen, and may bleed easily. If gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis, which causes your gums to pull away from your teeth to create pockets that often become infected. At this stage of gum disease, your soft-tissue and jawbone may begin to deteriorate, and complete tooth loss becomes a risk. These can also give you bad breath and increase your risk for heart attack, stroke, pneumonia, and many other conditions. Don’t let this happen to you. You need a dentist who can help you take care of your mouth, your smile, your health and your life. Dr. Emma Wu provides individualized periodontal therapy, including root scaling and planing (deep cleaning).
Gum Surgery
Gum grafting may be an appropriate treatment for patients who wish to reduce the appearance of an overly “gummy” smile. Whether you require surgical gum grafting to address advanced periodontal disease or you want to address cosmetic concerns, Dr. Wu can help develop a treatment plan that suits your needs.

Root Canal Therapy
Toothaches can range from a slight twinge when you bite down, to a dull, throbbing pain that won’t subside, even with the help of over-the-counter medication. Regardless of the severity of the discomfort you’re experiencing, you should promptly seek professional help for a toothache. Often, a toothache can be attributed to an untreated cavity or fracture, both of which can extend into the pulp at the core of your tooth. Bacteria can then invade the tooth’s core and cause infection, pressure, and pain. In cases like this, Dr. Emma Wu often recommends root canal treatment. We focus on patient comfort by removing the source of the toothache, and salvaging the healthy portions of the tooth. Dr. Wu performs most root canal treatments in a single appointment. Before proceeding, she will discuss the procedure with you and together you will decide whether you would benefit from dental sedation. Once she has numbed the area and you feel completely relaxed, she will remove the infected pulp tissue. Next, she will thoroughly clean, sterilize, and dry the root chamber before filling it. Finally, she will place a dental crown to protect the tooth. Contact us today to learn more.
Soft and Hard Tissue Laser
Traditional dental drills and tools produce heat and vibration, which can cause you to experience pain. Dr. Emma Wu uses state-of-the-art diode laser technology that allows her to perform soft-tissue surgeries as well as hard tissue. Oftentimes, a procedure can be done with nothing more than a topical anesthetic. You will experience significantly less bleeding, require less medication, and heal faster with less post-surgical pain.
Laser technology can be used to relieve cold sores and blisters and to remove growths and excess tissue that can cause other oral health problems. Laser periodontal therapy can also be used to remove periodontal disease-causing bacteria and debris from between your gums and teeth. If left untreated, this material can cause gum recession and even tooth loss. To learn more about laser dentistry, call us today.

Frenectomy
Dr. Wu can remove excess tissue from your frenulum, the two tags of skin that connect your tongue to the floor of your mouth and connect your upper lip to your gums. When these tissues are enlarged, your speech and oral health can be affected. Dr. Wu uses advanced technology to address these issues.
Dentures
A complete smile is important to your quality of life. With the prosthetic replacement options available today, there is no reason to live with missing teeth anymore. Top-quality dentures offered by Dr. Emma Wu are custom crafted to achieve a perfect fit, function properly, and look natural. Dr. Wu offers both traditional and implant-supported dentures. Non-Surgical Treatment
Dr. Emma Wu’s goal is to provide periodontal treatment that will get to the source of your condition and eliminate it using the least invasive method possible. In some cases, scaling and root planing, followed by adjunctive therapy and/or prescription medication may eliminate the disease. As with all of our patients, the intensity of your treatment will be completely dependent on the severity of your gum disease. In every periodontal disease case, Dr. Emma Wu includes a long-term maintenance guide to help you keep your mouth healthy.
Oftentimes, the pain you experience during a dental procedure is due to the heat and friction caused by abrasive tools. Dr. Emma Wu uses technology to perform periodontal treatment using a virtually painless stream of water to manipulate soft tissue and bone. This advanced treatment results in less post-op sensitivity and creates a better patient experience.
Inlays and Onlays
When more than half of the tooth’s biting surface is damaged a dentist will often use an inlay or onlay. Inlays and onlays can be made of porcelain, gold, or composite resin. These pieces are bonded to the damaged area of the tooth. An inlay, which is similar to a filling, is used inside the cusp tips of the tooth. An onlay is a more substantial reconstruction, similar to the inlay but extending out over one or more of the cusps of the tooth. Traditionally, gold has been the material of choice for inlays and onlays. In recent years, however, porcelain has become increasingly popular due to its strength and color, which can potentially match the natural color of your teeth.
Traditional fillings can reduce the strength of a natural tooth by up to 50 percent. As an alternative, inlays and onlays, which are bonded directly onto the tooth using special high-strength resins, can actually increase the strength of a tooth by up to 75 percent. As a result, they can last from 10 to 30 years. In some cases, where the damage to the tooth is not extensive enough to merit an entire crown, onlays can provide a very good alternative.

TMJ Disorder Treatment
Patients experiencing pain in and around their mouth, as well as daily headaches, facial muscle spasms, and varying levels of difficulty chewing foods may be experiencing the symptoms of TMJ disorder. Dr. Emma Wu can diagnose patients with TMJ disorder, and design and provide a custom oral appliance that helps relieve these symptoms. It is important that patients have TMJ disorder treated, as they may experience long term damage later in life in addition to their daily pain and discomfort.
Tooth Extraction
When a tooth cannot be salvaged due to severe decay or trauma, a tooth extraction may become necessary. Extractions are a last resort when preventive care is simply not enough to save your tooth. Dr. Wu attempts to make each treatment as painless as possible, offering sedation options for patients who are too nervous or sensitive to sit through a restorative procedure such as this.
